Monahan Chiropractic opened its doors in Encinitas over 35 years ago, and we've stayed exactly what we started as: a family-run practice that treats every patient like a neighbor — because most of them are.
Dr. Michael Monahan, DC, has been a chiropractor in Encinitas for over 35 years. In that time, he's treated surfers, new parents, weekend athletes, and grandparents — often from the same family, sometimes for decades running. With that much time in one place, there's very little he hasn't seen and helped heal.
He's also a professor of anatomy, physiology, and biology at Palomar College, which shows in how he explains what's going on in your body — clearly, and without rushing you out the door.
He's been married to his wife Andrea for more than 40 years, and together they have six kids. The family has always been part of the practice — every one of the kids has worked in the office at some point, and now it's the grandkids' turn to come "help," which mostly means charming the patients in the waiting room.
When Monahan Chiropractic first opened in Encinitas, it was built on a simple idea: chiropractic care should feel personal. Not a fifteen-minute appointment with a stranger, but a real relationship with someone who knows your history, your habits, and your family.
More than 35 years later, that idea hasn't changed. We're still family owned and operated, still rooted in the same coastal community, and still treating patients who first walked through our doors as kids — some of whom now bring in kids of their own.
Good care is unhurried. Good care listens before it adjusts. And good care sticks around long enough to watch a community grow up — which is exactly what we've had the privilege of doing here in Encinitas.
Everyone. Surfers with stiff backs, parents chasing toddlers, grandparents staying active, athletes pushing their limits, and expecting mothers looking for gentle, safe care. Whatever brought you in, we'll meet you there.
It's not unusual to see one of them wandering the halls, or making a new friend in the waiting room.
We keep our practice small on purpose, so every visit still feels like it did in 1990.
We've earned the trust to treat grandparents, parents, and kids under the same roof.
This community raised our practice. We're not going anywhere.
New patients are always welcome — reach out and we'll walk you through what to expect.
